John Peel died yesterday and I am well and truly gutted.
I grew up listening to John playing all kinds of new music and its largely thanks to him I developed the passion for music that I have today. So many of the artists with records in my music collection I first heard on John Peel's show keeping me slightly ahead of the field when it came to new music, and giving me lots of great music to listen to over the years, for this I am eternally grateful and he will be sorely missed by me and many others. Music will never be the same again. Record of the Week: The Undertones - Teenage Kicks dedicated to Mr John Peel 1939 - 2004 Monday, October 25, 2004
I have another blog on the go, its completly different to this one, where as this one is kind of a diary of stuff going on this new one is a collection of my thoughts on various subjects, hopefully eventually i'll cover everything.
Anyway it can be found at http://thinkinglittlethoughts.blogspot.com/ Not a lot has happened this past week, the Bloc Party gig was great, i made it to 70% of lectures and discovered that my LEA still haven't processed my loan application (It's only been 5 months!!) hence still no loan. I have big ambitious plans brewing in my head at the moment and if they come to anything i'll be the first to know (and then i might write something here about them) Saturday, October 16, 2004
Well Bec is leaving our household in a couple of weeks which is a bit of a shame but we already have her replacement a lovely girl called Sam who's a student and works at Lloyds bar and she's a genuinely nice person, we've had such good luck finding people for this house its unreal.
I've been working a lot recently (still) and i am (still) yet to recieve my student loan, the past 3 weeks i've worked 32, 26 and 28 hours respectivly in my supposed "Part Time" job, still its nice to be needed. I'm Seeing Bloc Party with Laura on Sunday at Cardiff's Clwb Ifor Bach which i'm really looking forward to and hopefully i'll have some more evenings off work some time soon so i can do even more enjoyable things. My main discovery of the week this week is that unfortunately the welsh football team are bloody awful!! Oh well, good thing it's only football and not anything important. Wednesday, October 06, 2004
The 9 ball tournament wasn't a great success, i got knocked out by someone i should easily been able to beat but shit happens i guess. The rest of the Rileys bunch didn't fair too well either apart from Lacey who made it to the final by which time he was far too pissed and promptly lost.
Anyway Freshers fayre was a good laugh and i signed up over 50 new members! (Fran signed up about 8 more than me but she has breasts and i don't) This week so far has been pretty dull really, hopefully it will be made better if we have this party on friday night providing everyone isn't boring and wants to stay in and watch fucking eastenders or whatever. I've written quite a few songs recently which is a good thing, and they're not too bad which is also....errrr good. I'm working on one at the moment called 'My Lovely Assistant' hopefully it will eventually be heard by all, you heard about it here first. Plenty of good music around at the mo, Steriogram's 'Walkie Talkie Man' is quite fun and Kings of Leon's new tune is very good however single of the week honours go to new band The Subways with their debut single '1am' find it get it, it's great!
